Amid negotiations between PT and PSB in the states and nationally for this year’s elections , the senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE) told Fórum that his party, despite the alliance it maintains with the PSB in Pernambuco, has legitimacy to launch its name to the state government. “Our pre-application is for real“, he said.
In the second half of December, PT from Pernambuco approved the pre-candidacy of Humberto Costa for Palácio do Campo das Princesas by a large majority and the name of the senator has the support of the former president Lula.
The PSB, however, tries to convince the PT to give up candidacies in some states to support Lula in the race for the presidency . Among these states are São Paulo, where the PSB tries to affiliate Geraldo Alckmin and place him as Lula’s deputy, in the expectation that Fernando Haddad withdraw your pre-application to support Márcio França, and Pernambuco.
In his second term, the governor of Pernambuco, Paulo Câmara ( PSB), must be a candidate for the Senate and the most cited name within his party to run for succession is the former mayor of Recife, Geraldo Júlio. However, there is still no definition on the subject.
Humberto: “Our pre-candidacy is for real”
In the midst of these negotiations, Humberto Costa met last Friday (7th) with Governor Paulo Câmara. At Forum, the senator revealed that, in the conversation, he reaffirmed to the PSB politician the legitimacy of his pre-candidacy.
“I talked to Governor Paulo Câmara to tell him that our pre-candidacy for the government of Pernambuco is for real. My name was launched by the state PT, with the support of the national PT and President Lula himself, with whom I have been talking. It is not an act of war or belligerence. But the PT has plenty of political capital to make a name for itself”, he declares.
According to Costa, the PT’s trajectory in Pernambuco and his own political experience credence his name as a pre-candidate.
“We have already governed Recife for three terms, we have successful programs and, in my case, I was state and federal deputy, the most voted councilor in the history of Recife, secretary Municipal Health, State Secretary of Cities, Minister of Health. I am reaching the middle of my term as senator, my second, after being the most voted in 2018. So, we have a lot to offer Pernambuco, the birthplace of President Lula”, scores.
Humberto Costa considers, however, that the PT’s approval of his pre-candidacy takes place within the scope of discussions with the Popular Front of Pernambuco, composed of more than 10 parties, and that is why there is still no definitive decision on the subject .
“Everything is part of the discussions we are currently having about alliances. Nothing is immutable. But we want to have a leading role in this debate”, he explains.
