The current president of the West African country, Guinea, Mamady Doumbouya has stated that he has forgiven the national team for failing to win the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy.
It could be recalled that the president was in the news some weeks ago as he gave the team a staunch warning to win the tournament because the country has provided them with the needed money and if they don’t win, they will be paying all these monies to the state.
The team could not win the trophy and many people were expecting a refund with a harsh punishment, however, that is not the case as he has revealed that he has forgiven them.
According to him, his initial ‘threat’ was to ginger the team and also make them win the cup, but since they couldn’t win the cup, the team has to refund the unspent money since the money they gave them covered their first group game to the final.
This means the team has to pay the monies that were to cover for their quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final since they were eliminated in the round of 16 stages.
