Eddie Hearn regretted not keeping his composure when confronted by an abusive fan after Anthony Joshua’s defeat to Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night.
Britain’s unified heavyweight champion was outboxed and dethroned by the Ukrainian, who put on a magnificent performance to make history at Spurs’ stadium.
This was a big blow to Hearn, who promotes AJ, whom he is also close friends with.
In the aftermath of the fight, Joshua is walking back towards his dressing room with the Matchroom boss close behind him.
At this point one fan seemingly shouts, ‘Eddie you py.’
Hearn pulled back and confronted him, in full view of cameras, replying: “What did you say? What did you say? What did you say? Syourself now you py.”
Hearn reflected to iFL TV two days later: “Bad timing. It was just bad timing.
“I shouldn’t have bit really. It’s just hard.
“I spent a lot of that night at that area taking pictures with everyone asked.
“I think that group of people even asked for a photo with me.
“I should’ve just ignored it, but at that point I’m pretty ped off to be honest.
“As I went out of sight, one of them went, ‘Eddie you py,’ and I lost my rag.
“I shouldn’t have done it, but at the end of the day we spend our whole lives listening to people online that give you abuse all day, every tweet.
“That’s no problem, these people wouldn’t even open their mouths if they see you face-to-face.
“But if you wanna do it to my face, especially if I’m in a terrible mood, if you call me a py, I might laugh, but there is actually the option to go, ‘What did you say?’
“And that was bad timing for that geezer.
“It’s not because I’m a tough guy or anything like that, but at that time some bloke called me a py.
“At that moment I would’ve taken on about 40 people, swear to God.
“But yeah, I shouldn’t have done it really, I shouldn’t have bit, but emotions were running high.”
