You’ve passed the flirting and messaging stage, you’re connected on social media and you’ve sailed through the first date, but it’s date number two that’s key to a successful and long-lasting love connection – and what you wear is crucial.
When it comes to love, there’s a lot of us looking for it. The UK alone has five million Tinder users, making Brits the second most common users on the app.
According to Head Of Marketing at Pink Boutique, Sarah, “No one wants a bad first date” but with some perfect outfit planning “there are some fashion steps you can take to ensure that you’ve lined up date number two.”
She added: “The key thing is confidence. If you don’t feel comfortable and confident in yourself, then this can come across badly for your date. Being your authentic, fun self is important for not only bagging that second date but also making sure they are the right one for you.”
And confidence can often come from our clothes, whether you grab that power playsuit or magic mini dress that steals everyone’s attention. Different outfits are clearly more appropriate than others for power playing your date and no’one knows this better than Taylor Swift, says Sarah.
“She’s the ultimate in versatile fashion and nails each look comfortably. I think a second date is on the cards if you play by Taylor’s fashion rules.”
Pub drinks
We’ve all been there, the quick drink in the pub, which is either over as soon as you enter or lasts for hours but you can banish nerves with a dose of Taylor inspiration.
If it’s a cocktail bar you’re off to then you can afford to make an impression with an iconic little black dress and heels, obviously accompanied by your favourite necklace and red lipstick to give you that boost of confidence. This brings the ‘wow’ factor into your outfit, distracting your date in all the right ways.
Try this Out on the Town Black Bardot Belted mini dress, for £37.99 for total Taylor vibes or this chic Boucle dress, for £44.99
But if you’ve decided on a more casual setting, such as the local, you might want to wear something a bit less pinching. If you’re more of a jeans and joggers girl, then your favourite comfortable pair of jeans and a nice top are perfect for this setting. Customise it with feminine accessories and swap your lipstick for some shining lip gloss to complete the look.
Try these purse-friendly Skinny Slim Fit jeans, for just £18.99 or splash out on these eco-wash Organic Cotton Brompton ones, for £89.00.
Coffee meeting
A coffee date can be a great way to meet someone again, especially if you still aren’t sure how it’ll work out.
Coffee dates tend to be faster and much more casual. Go with smart but comfortable trousers teamed with a chic top, or a fitted maxi skirt and an oversized t-shirt for that relaxed but put-together look. Complement this with natural makeup and your hair flowing and loose or in a claw clip for the ultimate clean girl, café-ready creation.
We love these Call My Name Taupe Tailored trousers, reduced to £12.50, and team with this bargain Oversized T-shirt, for £9.99 and available in lots of colour options, for a budget price outfit that won’t compromise on style.
Sarah says: “You can even pair this with your favourite boots or trainers for a more edgy or sporty style. This way, you can show your personality through your shoes. Whether you’re a Doc Martens fanatic or more of a Converse girl, this outfit is versatile enough to truly display who you are.”
Dinner date
The classic dinner date has long been a popular choice for a second date, when you’re a little more relaxed. There’s more time for chat, and you can tell a lot more about someone from what they eat, how they eat and how they treat the staff.
But before you even reach your table, you’ll want to make an impression with your outfit – and a dinner date is the perfect place to up the temperature. Especially if it is an evening meal, you’ll want to go for something a bit more formal.
A red dress could be your answer – bringing the heat out of the kitchen and into your date. Remember to choose a dress with plenty of stretch to give you room to breathe but with a nice figure-hugging silhouette so you can show off your bod while still having room for food!
This high neck, long sleeved Belted Tunic dress option is great for colder nights and just £28.99, or go very Taylor-esque with this Vintage dress, at £30.99
Sarah advised that there’s one passing trend that’s best avoided at all costs though.
“Avoid obnoxious neon colours or contrasting patterns that might distract your date, and instead choose more neutral tones wherever possible!”
Going hiking
We’ve all seen it on dating app bios, the “need a girl who loves hiking as much as me” pressure. Choosing an outfit for when exercise is the main activity is tough though.
Choose something fitting and comfortable, suitable for walking a long distance. Opt for sports leggings, or cycling shorts, that show your figure and a breathable top. You can even wear a hoodie if the weather is expected to be cold or steal your date’s hiking jacket (if it goes well!).
Make sure your hair is tied up and pulled back in a cap to avoid the wind-swept look and use a good primer and setting spray to keep your makeup lasting the whole time. Don’t forget to bring a picnic basket and a blanket so that you can relax and enjoy the scenery once you reach your destination.
We love these Grey Acid Wash Ribbed Cycling Shorts, at just £14.99 and try teaming with this Multi sport performance long sleeve top, now at £7.50. The light turquoise colour is flattering and on-trend.
