Images of the Week: Princess Charlotte Casiraghi Opens Chanel Couture

The spring 2022 couture shows took place in Paris last week, showcasing each designer’s most opulent vision for the season. The Chanel spring 2022 couture show opened in grand fashion, with Grace Kelly’s granddaughter, Princess Charlotte Casiraghi, riding down the runway on a horse. At Valentino, Pierpaolo Piccioli showed his colorful gowns on a host of diverse models, a rarity still for the couture collections. “When you do couture, you have the house model. And you apply the body of the house model to 50 or 60 models on the runway. I wanted to break these rules and embrace the idea of different proportions of body, different sizes, different ages,” he told Vogue.

Last Sunday, visionary designer Thierry Mugler died at 73. A true showman, he outfitted Beyoncé for her tours and Kim Kardashian for the Met Gala, and staged some of the most theatrical runway shows the industry has seen in the ’80s and ’90s.

The past two weeks, we have been celebrating the boundary-breakers in Gen-Z with our Youthquake series. From CGI artists to sustainable designers to transgender pageant queens, there’s plenty of inspiring talent under 25 all over the globe.

Finally, Australian tennis player Ashleigh Barty won the Australian Open last night, beating out her American opponent Danielle Collins. Below see the images of the week.
