In Greece they will fine 100 euros to those over 60 who are not vaccinated

As of January 16, unvaccinated people over 60 years of age will be fined “100 euros per month” until they are vaccinated, the Greek government announced, recalling that the vaccine against covid -19 is mandatory for this age group.

This decision has been taken because “nine out of ten deaths due to the coronavirus affect this age group,” said the government spokesman, Yannis Economou, at a press conference.

«Seven out of ten intubated people were over 60 years old and eight out of ten were not vaccinated», he added.

«As of January 16, the sanctions provided for in the law will be applied and a monthly administrative fine of 100 euros will be imposed as long as these people do not get vaccinated», he stressed.

To encourage vaccination against covid-19, the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced at the end of November that the vaccine would become mandatory for those over 60 years of age, and they granted a deadline until on January 16 to make an appointment, AFP highlighted.

The Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, also announced on the radio that 50 centers would be created to carry out tests near the Army camps, to relieve pharmacies that perform PCR and antigen tests.

In Greece on Wednesday, 77 people died in 24 hours, while 670 people were in intensive care.
