Awkward Twitter DMs and prank proposals
Beginning their relationship way back in September 2016, the couple told Vogue how Nick had made the first move by sending Priyanka a direct message on Twitter telling her that mutual friends had said they should meet.
Responding soon after, Priyanka replied: “My team can read this. Why don’t you just text me.”
And after months of texting, the couple finally met each other at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party in 2017.
Having arrived separately, Nick saw Priyanka walk into the room, before getting down on one knee and saying: “You’re real. Where have you been all my life?”
Like a Richard Curtis movie, Priyanka sadly had a flight to India to catch and could only stay for five minutes.
Red carpet dates
Later on in the year, the duo made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala in May 2017, matching in Ralph Lauren.
But dismissing rumours that they were dating, Priyanka appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and said that they were strictly friends.
“We were both wearing Ralph Lauren and we decided to go together. It was fun.”
“We were at the same table. I mean, we know each other so we were just like, ‘Hey let’s go together,’ and I was like, ‘Okay, let’s go together.’ And it just ended up working out,” she went on.
Tiffany & Co. shutdown
Following their Met Gala appearance, Nick and Priyanka didn’t see each other for a year.
In true showbiz style, they next ran into each other at the 2018 Met Gala, though things progressed rather quickly after this meeting.
After going on three dates, Nick shut down a Tiffany & Co. store in order to find the perfect ring for his bride-to-be and a year and a half into messaging one another, Nick asked the question during a romantic trip to Crete.
Double dates with the royals
According to US Weekly, the Chai singer and the Quantico star had been spotted at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s house in Sussex shortly after Nick had gotten down on one knee.
Priyanka has been a loyal friend of Meghan, having first met the Duchess of Sussex at an ELLE Women in Television dinner in 2016.
Since then they have remained close and Priyanka attended Meghan and Harry’s wedding in 2018.
Three-day wedding
The couple tied the knot at the end of the same year during a three-day wedding celebration that combined both Indian and Western traditions as they celebrated with their friends and family.
The ceremony took place in the Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, with Nick’s father officiating the ceremony.
The bride’s dresses featured a mix of Indian and Western designers, with Priyanka wearing a long sleeve Ralph Lauren gown for the Christian ceremony.
