The Legislative Assembly held the special session “Cycle of Lectures for the Awareness and Social Inclusion of Deaf People” this Thursday afternoon (30). On September 30th, the International Day of the Deaf and the Day of Translators and Interpreters of Libras are celebrated.
The President of the Legislative Assembly, Deputy Max Russi (PSB), delivered plaques of good service for the works rendered to the deaf person and of motions of applause for the honored persons. Among those awarded the plaque are the secretary of Social Assistance and Citizenship of the state, Rosamaria de Ferreira Carvalho, and the national secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Priscilla Roberta Gaspar de Oliveira. The motions of applause were delivered to the interpreters of the Interpretation Center of Libras (Cil).
In the opening speech of the event, Russi spoke of his proposal (PL nº 40/2020) which regulates the profession of translator and interpreter of Libras. “The bill also proposes that the executive, legislative and judiciary powers and all administrative bodies should provide the service of a translator interpreter of pounds to ensure accessibility,” said the parliamentarian.
Deputy Wilson Santos (PSDB) also recalled other projects under way at the Casa that seek to meet the demands of deaf people. The obligation for banks to offer the option for the deaf to communicate with the Brazilian Sign Language and the creation of measures to ensure accessibility for the deaf in public positions or jobs are the objective of some proposals mentioned by the deputy.
The event, which had the participation of the deaf community, representatives of UFMT and the executive and judiciary powers, was closed after the presentation of the lectures “The Rights of the Deaf Person as a Citizen”, “Benefit Assistance to the Deaf Person LOAS/BPC” , “Accessibility in the Labor Market for the Deaf Person” and “Presentation of the Libras Interpretation Center”. Participants were able to ask questions about their rights and the functioning of benefits.
