The26thInternationalFilmFestivalofKerala(IFFK)2022hasbeenpostponedinthewakeofsurgingCOVID-19cases,StateCulturalMinisterSajiCheriansaid.Theannualfestival,organisedbyKeralaStateChalachitraAcademyonbehalfofDepartmentofCulturalAffairs,GovernmentofKerala,wassettobeheldfromFebruary4-11,2022inThiruvananthapuram.
TheministersaidtheIFFKwillnowtakeplaceafterbringingtheCOVIDsituationundercontrol.
Theprestigiouseight-daymoviegala,whichisusuallyheldinDecembereachyear,screensfilmsfromacrosstheworldincovetedcategorieslikeInternationalCompetition,MalayalamCinemaToday,IndianCinemaNow,WorldCinema,CountryFocus,Retrospectivesofmajorfilmmakersamongothers.
KeralahasbeenwitnessingasharpspikeintheCOVID-19casesforthepastoneweek.OnSunday,January16,thestatereported18,123freshinfections,takingthetotalnumberofCOVID-19positivecasesto53,69,706.
