Internet Usage Rate of Europe and Asia Announced: What About Turkey?

Two maps created by Landgeist based on World Bank and Eurostat data, revealed the internet usage rates in Asian and European countries. While Turkey lags behind Europe, it manages to catch up with the Asian average.

Based on research by the United States government in 1960

internet started to take a big place in human life in the 1990s. Today, everything from our refrigerator to our washing machine and even a lamp has become connected to the internet. However, this does not mean that the internet is used by the same number of users under the same conditions all over the world. It is shown on the map created based on the 2020 data of the World Bank and Eurostat. Prepared maps, in European and Asian countries and regions of countries , individuals aged 16-74 who have used the internet in the last 3 months showed the rate. While Turkey lagged behind European countries, it ranked average compared to Asian countries.

World Bank and Eurostat data, the map above shows the proportion of internet users in countries and regions. According to this in countries located in the western part of Europe such as the United Kingdom, Scandinavian Peninsula, Germany, the Netherlands and France, those between the ages of 16-74 who have used the internet in the last 3 months The proportion of individuals is in the range of 90-100% . Among the countries with the lowest rate are Ukraine, Turkey, Greece and the southern part of Italy . While the rate of internet usage in the eastern part of Turkey is between 55-70%, it is mostly in the range of 70-80% in the Central Anatolia, Mediterranean, Aegean and Marmara regions. We see. In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Istanbul, it can be seen that the rate of internet usage is between 85-90% and 90-100%, respectively.

When we look at Asian countries, we can clearly see that the rate is low in the countries in the southern part of Asia and high in the northern part. The countries with the highest internet usage rate are in the Arabian Peninsula. While the rate is 100% in Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait, we see 99% in the United Arab Emirates and 96% in Saudi Arabia. The Asian country with the lowest rate is Bangladesh with 13%.

Turkey is the average of Asian countries. The average internet usage rate in Turkey is stated as 74%. Neighboring countries use the internet by 69% in Georgia, 67% in Armenia and 78% in Iran. In Azerbaijan, we see that this rate is 81%.
