iPad Pro 2022 may feature a glass Apple logo with a larger size on the back to allow for the MagSafe wireless charging to work, but it will not come without problems.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The iPad Pro 2022 may feature a glass back with bigger Apple logo.
  • Glass will allow for the faster and better MagSafe wireless charging.
  • Apple, however, is also doubtful about how fragile glass will make the iPad.

Apple’s 2022 lineup of products will have not just iPhones and Macs. The iPads may too get a refresh this year, and that definitely includes the iPad Pro. Previous rumours have suggested the iPad Pro models this year may feature a redesign, which basically refers to a glass back. A glass back on the iPad Pro would allow better wireless charging with the help of Apple’s MagSafe technology, but there is some uncertainty.

9to5Google has reported, citing industry sources, that Apple has developed some prototypes of the iPad Pro with a bigger Apple logo, possibly the same size as the one on the MacBook Pro. The logo is not only larger but also features glass instead of aluminium. A glass back will allow MagSafe wireless charging to work better, just like how it does on iPhones. The prototype has strong magnets to prevent accidents that may occur during charging. The wireless charging on the iPad may also be faster than the iPhone’s, the report said.

But while a glass back sounds promising for wireless charging, it is also more prone to damage, making the iPad Pro more fragile. Meanwhile, an aluminium back will make MagSafe charging difficult. Glass is naturally more fragile than metal, so the choice that Apple will have to make is between durability and fast wireless charging. And Apple is still doubtful about which one it should go for, at least right now.

For now, we are not sure whether the next iPad Pro will have a glass back or not, but there are other changes that you can expect. For instance, the iPad Pro may come with a larger battery, which will be great for users because the Magic Keyboard drains the battery like anything. It will also have a camera system similar to that on the iPhone 13, and, of course, a new chipset. I am expecting M2 to debut on the iPad Pro this year. There is also a possibility that a bigger model with a display larger than 12.9-inch will arrive this time.

Some wild rumours even pointed out that Apple may be looking at a notched display on the iPad Pro this year. While a notch on the display would make the iPad Pro look more like other Apple products, it sounds experimental at this point and there is a very little chance it will make it this year.
