Lowe hits 3 homers for Rays at Yankee Stadium
Brandon Lowe has hit three home runs Saturday for the Tampa Bay Rays against the New York Yankees. Lowe connected for a pair of early three-run shots off Jordan Montgomery, and then launched a leadoff drive in the seventh inning against Michael King, giving the second baseman a career-high seven RBIs. Lowe bounced to first base in the eighth.

New York will face Tampa Bay rookie Shane Baz (2-0, 1.69) in his third big league start. The 22-year-old struck out nine Miami batters over 5 2/3 scoreless innings in his previous outing, sparking speculation he could crack the Rays postseason rotation even though he didn’t debut in the majors until Sept. 20. The Blue Jays have two games remaining versus lowly Baltimore, and the Mariners are closing things out against the Angels.

Frustration for Ronaldo, joy for Werner in Premier League
Grumbling to himself and shaking his head, Cristiano Ronaldo went straight toward the tunnel at the final whistle of Manchester United’s latest slip-up at Old Trafford. Not only had his team dropped more points at home in the Premier League, the 36-year-old Ronaldo had been given barely a half-hour on the field against Everton after starting as a substitute following two 90-minute displays in the past week. Perhaps adding to Ronaldo’s frustration, the scorer of the goal that denied United a victory had the temerity to copy the Portugal star’s famous celebration.

Haniger keeps M’s playoff hopes alive with rally vs Angels
Mitch Haniger refused to let the Seattle Mariners unlikely run at postseason contention end with thud. In doing so, he ensured the Mariners will be playing meaningful baseball on the final day of the regular season. “The ‘Haniger Game,’ I think is what we can call this one,” Seattle manager Scott Servais said.
