Yesterday, Israel revealed that Iran still has a long way to go to acquire a nuclear bomb, despite the fears arising from the acceleration of uranium enrichment to high levels.
The commander of Israeli military intelligence, Maj. Gen. Tamir Hayman, told the online Wallah News website. Khabari that Iran will not get a nuclear bomb soon. Although he admitted that Iran’s enrichment levels of uranium were “alarming,” he said it had a long way to go before it could get a properly functioning atomic bomb that could pose a threat to Israel. Hayman said in the interview, parts of which were published by the “Jerusalem Post” newspaper: “There are enriched quantities (of uranium) in volumes that we have not seen before, and this is worrying. At the same time, in all other aspects of the Iranian nuclear project, we do not see progress … not in the armaments project, nor in the financial field, nor in any other sector.” Therefore, the exact time distance (before Iran reached a bomb production) is still two years and has not changed. He added that the information available to Israel says, “They (the Iranians) are not heading towards the bomb at the moment. Perhaps in the distant future.”
Hyman revealed that Iran continues to withdraw its forces from Syria, but he said that the Lebanese “Hezbollah” remains “rooted” there. He warned that using the “Hezbollah” card against Israel would lead to two things: causing great destruction to the party’s capabilities, and destroying the Lebanese state.
This came as Iran continued its maneuvers near the border. With Azerbaijan, the Iranian Defense Minister, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, warned those he described as “enemies” that they would pay a “heavy price” for “any foolish and ignorant step,” he said. In return for his words, Ali Shamkhani, the Secretary-General of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said that his country “seeks good for its neighbors, and has never posed any threat to them.” On Friday morning, the Iranian army began carrying out the “Khaybar Fateh” maneuvers near the Azerbaijani borders, amid escalating tension between the two countries due to issues including Baku’s relations with Israel.
