LAS VEGAS – Jake Collier is looking to get a step up in name value for his next trip to the octagon.
The heavyweight wants to fight former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski. Collier (13-6 MMA, 5-5 UFC) called out the seasoned veteran following his latest win at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 32. Collier quickly dispatched Chase Sherman with a rear-naked choke at the 2:26 mark of Round 1.
Collier didn’t take much damage, so he’s hoping to get a quick turnaround.
“March – that would be great,” Collier told reporters at the UFC on ESPN 32 post-fight news conference. “Give me a good opponent. I said Arlovski because Chase and him had a good fight. I would love to fight a legend, and I think it’s a good matchup for me.”
Arlovski is currently booked for a Feb. 12 fight against Jared Vanderaa at UFC 271.
Although Arlovski may not be a strong candidate for his next fight given the timeline, Collier also has other goals that don’t necessarily involve specific names.
“I want to stay active,” Collier said. “I’m tired of fighting two fights a year. I’m not hurt. I don’t even know how long that fight was. I didn’t get touched much. Like I said, March would be awesome for me.”
