Jon Stewart attempted to keep his cool as Election Night results rolled in during the live “The Daily Show” election night special.
The late night host lamented to his live studio audience about the uncertain presidential election results and assured them that he would “try to find good news” for them, meaning elections where Democrats won.
“This is not the end,” Stewart said as he concluded his show. “We have to regroup, and we have to continue to fight and continue to work day in and day out to create the better society for our children, for this world, for this country that we know is possible.”
Stewart did not hide his unease throughout the broadcast, even dropping a couple “f–k”‘s on the air.
Desi Lydic popped open a bottle of wine saying, “I’m gonna get started on my Project 2025.”
There was one moment that brought Stewart some hope — a conversation with Michigan Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist.
The lieutenant governor of the contentious swing state told the late night host to take a deep breath as votes were still being counted in the state. Gilchrist also attempted to put the late night host at ease telling him that Black men in Michigan “don’t want a president who insults them.”
“We’ve built the kind of apparatus we need to win in Michigan,” he added.
“Can you go to Build-A-Bear and record your voice, and then put in the little heart, and then put it in the bear, and then mail it to me?” Stewart asked the lieutenant governor. “Before I go to bed every night, I just want to press that little paw and hear, ‘They’re ready to be part of the future.’”
“The Daily Show Presents A Live Election Night Special With Jon Stewart: Indecision 2024: Nothing We Can Do About It Now” aired live on Comedy Central.
