Justin Trudeau explains that mandates, though frustrating, ‘are the way to avoid further restrictions’

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has popped his head out for a bit to talk about the vaccine mandates that inspired a horde of truckers to drive to Ottawa to protest. Trudeau actually seems to show some empathy for the protesters for a second, explaining that he knows how frustrating it’s been to live under COVID-19 for two years. But then he adds that the beatings will stop when morale improves.

Within a month or so all mandates and restrictions will have been dropped in almost every country in the world. I can see lockdowns in Canada and Australia (and China) going into 2023 however.

Our situation is one of personal responsibility given the mildness of this variant. We don’t need these measures in their current form. Where there is risk on an individual, there should be a choice. We ought to maximize that freedom and not restrict it in bad faith.

— Black Waltz (pro unacceptable views arc) (@BlackWaltz123) February 8, 2022

Hey!!! We just want to take away a little bit of your freedom so we can have freedom. Is that too much to ask?

Just two weeks to slow the spread, honest!

Most of Canada’s already vaccinated anyway — he ought to be happy. But he’s dug in and has no way out.
