Kamala Harris’ new communications director finds it depressing that people are zooming in on ‘bad tweets’

As Twitchy reported Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris’ new communications director, Jamal Simmons, was seeing an old tweet of his where he called the shot the Biden administration wants to mandate “a janky science vaccine.” The tweet’s still up:

Trump’s fatally ill-managed Coronavirus response seems to have turned voters off to him the way Katrina destroyed Bush’s political reputation, but pushing a janky science vaccine into the public for political purposes would turn incompetent culpability into intentional harm.

— Jamal Simmons (@JamalSimmons) September 3, 2020

So, during the 2020 campaign season, he and his new boss were both vaccine skeptics.

Now Simmons is cleaning up after another “bad tweet” that’s making the rounds.

Hey, it sounds like a good tweet to us.

For the record, I’ve never advocated for, nor believed that Dreamers should be targeted by ICE agents. I’ve been for DACA + comprehensive immigration reform for years. Frankly, it’s depressing ppl can forget about every other thing I’ve said in public on this bc of bad tweets.

— Jamal Simmons (@JamalSimmons) January 7, 2022

Oh, “Dreamers” are off the hook, then.

Time-traveling Russian hackers must have hijacked the Twitter account of Kamala Harris’ new comms director! https://t.co/wJzknWPLvX

Why is securing the border controversial? You tweeted what you did because it was correct. It is not racist to want people to immigrate legally.

— Carmine Sabia (@CarmineSabia) January 8, 2022

I absolutely LOVE the “Dreamers” qualifier you snuck in there.

“For the record, I won’t be addressing the harm caused by my ‘bad tweets.’ In fact, this whole situation is so depressing that I’ve decided that I AM the victim here!”

— Jerome Jackson (@jacksojj88) January 7, 2022

Step down.

— Giuseppe Maranto (@gmaranto136) January 8, 2022

Done. Cancelled. No heart no sympathy.

— buzzbunny✨ (@buzzbunnyxxx) January 8, 2022

Hang in there. MVP chose you for a reason. 💪

Yeah this is the reason. Perfectly on brand. pic.twitter.com/B6TWq3Sz6J

If you’re paid to do comms, you don’t have the right to whine about people misinterpreting your old tweets. Like this is literally your job lmao

— esoteric yaoi feat. hot Catboy (@anarchotokonoko) January 7, 2022

While that may be true you surely know, as a communication professional, that this bad tweet would come back at you?!

— Christopher Filkins (@filchyboy) January 8, 2022

You said what you said.

— Andrew Bentley (@GringoChapin1) January 8, 2022

So you’re the victim here? It’s your feelings that matter? I mean, your job is literally communicating. This isn’t going to help, methinks

— Spidercanyon🕷 (@Spider_canyon) January 7, 2022

off to a great start dude

— All Ball (@GorillaBisquick) January 7, 2022

Interesting that someone hired to do communications doesn’t understand the importance of communication and the weight of words in the public space.

— (@vasaforever) January 7, 2022

Dude you tweeted it twice.

— John-Michael Bond (@BondJohnBond) January 7, 2022

“Bad tweets” are like things people say when they’re drunk, i.e. they’re how one really feels…and it’s not like you had one or two.

— Muscovy Beast (@GilWhitedale) January 8, 2022

Tweet through it, dude. It’s a great look.

— The Lemmy (@roomtodrown) January 7, 2022

You’re playing in the big leagues now, comes with the territory.

If you can’t handle it, maybe not for you.

“What I said back then served my career, but now that it doesn’t, I balk at anyone who takes what I definitely said back then seriously”

— Bat City Antifascists (@BatCity_Antifa) January 8, 2022

Not looking good man

— lifetime of cringe (@riesenreturn) January 8, 2022

Frankly, you could have tweeted this without that last sentence, but you just had to keep going.🙄

— Jenergy! Pro-Democracy Dávila (@jenbornstein) January 8, 2022

What about the janky science vaccine 🤷🏻‍♀️

— tdooley (@tdooley222) January 8, 2022

A lot of people are also passing along screenshots of Simmons’ take on waterboarding:

Why did you say torture is okay? pic.twitter.com/8PtdzyWlOj

— Benny Russell (@GCSnipe) January 7, 2022

He’s doing great.
