Kelly Clarkson said she relied heavily on the help of antidepressants to get through her bitter divorce from Brandon Blackstock.
“I looked at my therapist, and I just couldn’t stop sobbing, and I was like, ‘I actually had to cancel some of the other day because I couldn’t stop crying. I cannot do this,’” the singer said on the “Las Culturistas” podcast Wednesday.
“And it was one of those things where I really had to put my pride aside and, like, all my childhood issues of whatever.
“I was on Lexapro for, like, I think, two months,” she told hosts Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang.
The “Kelly Clarkson Show” host, 41, filed for divorcefrom Blackstock in June 2020 after seven years of marriage.



The pair — who sharedaughter River Rose, 9,and son Remington Alexander, 7 — finally settled their splitin March 2022 aftertwo years of court battles.
“My thing was, I just can’t smile anymore for America right now,” she said. “I’m not happy, and I need help … and it was honest to God, the greatest decision ever. I wouldn’t have made it [without it].”
Last week, Clarkson told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe thatshe “did not handle [the divorce] well.”

“I don’t know how people get through anything like that because I’m not going to say I did it gracefully. Behind closed doors by myself, it was not,” she said, admitting she tried to put on a happy face.

The singer said she often found herself “crying so hard” that she “couldn’t even speak” when she realized that her ill-fated marriage was dying.
The “American Idol” alum earlier this month admitted shestayed in her marriage much longer than she should havebecause she didn’t want to feel like a failure.
“When you’re in it … I’m like, ‘I can do this,’” Clarkson told host Glennon Doyle on the“We Can Do Hard Things”podcast. “I can handle so much. I can control my actions. I can control my reactions.”
“I can do this and I can reach this person and I can get through. And it becomes a little bit of your ego that gets in the way.”
