Kingdom Hearts Games Are Coming to Switch via the Cloud
Multiple Kingdom Hearts titles are making their way to Nintendo Switch consoles. Three games from the popular crossover gaming series will soon be playable on Nintendo’s hand-held console, namely, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Kingdom Hearts III, and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix, in addition to the game’s ReMind DLC.
It was recently announced that a fan-favorite Kingdom Hearts character will be the final DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but it would seem that this is not the only foray of the iconic spiky-haired hero on the Nintendo Switch after Game Director Masahiro Sakurai confirmed the Switch port for the aforementioned Kingdom Hearts trilogy. Unfortunately, the devs did not provide an official release date at their digital showcase today.
Taking a look at Nintendo’s tradition, high definition third-party games either are not released on the Switch, or may do so further down the line in a less-optimized state. However, it has been noted by the gaming community that Nintendo has been allowing game publishers to make visually demanding games available to Switch users via the cloud, such as with Hitman 3 and Control: Ultimate Edition, to name a few. With that said, Kingdom Hearts on the Switch will require an Internet connection in order to play. The good news is that they will not need a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online.
Price for the Switch port of the Kingdom Hearts titles involved were also not provided at Nintendo’s stream. At the moment, it remains unclear how Kingdom Hearts will look and feel once it is streamed over the Internet, as compared to being played locally. However, it is worth noting that Control—which also has cloud versions for Switch units—provided a gaming experience that was not as bad as gamers feared. If the Switch launch of Kingdom Hearts gets similar treatment, fans can expect a free trial period to make sure if their Internet connection can handle it.
