Last year, the return of the Turkish Grand Prix to the Formula 1 calendar was marked by a slippery track, on asphalt which was freshly resurfaced. The circuit worked to prevent this from happening again.
This was done in particular by stripping the asphalt to remove the substances that would ooze from it and to remove the stones that make up the surface of the asphalt, making it more abrasive.
Not everyone hopes, however, that the track has recovered a strong level of grip. Charles Leclerc has indeed fond memories of the 2020 Turkish GP and his driving sensations on this particular asphalt, which had also been cleaned by the rain.
“I remember a lot of people complaining, but I was one of the few who was happy that things were going this way because we were competitive, we were fighting for very good positions “ remembers the Ferrari driver.
” A podium was even possible . I had enjoyed this weekend, but it did not end as I wanted it, just off the podium in fourth place. But overall it was a positive weekend for us, and I hope we can reproduce that this year. “
Leclerc therefore wants adhesion to remain precarious in Istanbul, so that Ferrari still benefits from these conditions, since the Scuderia had signed a good overall result in third and fourth positions:
“I heard that some things have changed, including washing the track several times. We’ll see if it’s as bad as last year. I don’t think it will be that bad, but I hope it will still be slippery and will always benefit us. “
