Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce are set to co-star in the BritBox/Spectrum Originals six-episode limited series “A Spy Among Friends” which has just begun filming in London and Romania.
Created by Alexander Cary (“Homeland”) and based on the best-selling book by Ben Macintyre, the story revolves around the defection of the infamous British intelligence officer and KGB double agent Kim Philby (Pearce) and his relationship with an MI6 friend and colleague Nicholas Elliott (Lewis).
Philby was of course one of the infamous ‘Cambridge Five’, a UK spy ring that passed information to the Soviet Union during World War II and was active from the 1930s until at least into the early 1950s – gutting British and American intelligence at the height of the Cold War.
Cary, Patrick Spence, Nick Murphy, Chrissy Skinns, Bob Bookman, Alan Gasmer, Peter Jaysen and Lewis executive produce while Murphy will direct.
“A Spy Among Friends” will premiere next year on BritBox in the U.K. and Spectrum’s On Demand platform in the U.S. in Fall 2022.
