Washington – Eine offizielle Bestätigung gibt es noch nicht, aber mehrere US-Medien berichten es übereinstimmend: Der liberale US-Höchstrichter Stephen Breyer will sich mit Ende des aktuellen Gerichtsjahres von seinem Posten zurückziehen. Damit würde der 83-Jährige dem aktuellen US-Präsidenten Joe Biden die Chance für eine Nachbesetzung geben. Das Weiße Haus wollte sich in einer ersten Reaktion nicht zu den Beichten der TV-Sender NBC News und CNN äußern. Das aktuelle Gerichtsjahr dauert noch bis Oktober.
