MEXICO CITY, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) — A Liga MX fixture between Pumas UNAM and Toluca has been postponed because of a COVID-19 outbreak, the entity said on Thursday.
Seven players from Toluca’s first team have tested positive for the virus since December 30 while Pumas have two positive cases.
“The Liga MX, in conjunction with the clubs, decided to postpone the Pumas-Toluca match by one day. The game will now be played on Monday, January 10,” read a Liga MX statement.
The match at Estadio Olimpico Universitario forms part of the opening weekend of the Liga MX season.
Thursday’s announcement came a day after the Liga MX also rescheduled the clash between Santos Laguna and Tigres UANL because of 12 active COVID-19 infections in the latter’s squad.
Originally slated for Saturday, the duel will now take place on January 12. ■
