Liverpool boss ‘remains positive’ over Salah contract talks despite lack of progress

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has insisted he is remaining positive in regard to Mohamed Salah’s contract situation, despite the Egyptian entering into the final 18 months of his current deal with the club.

The forward, who is currently on international duty with Egypt at the African Cup of Nations, recently insisted that he is ‘not asking for crazy stuff’, however the two parties are yet to strike a deal.

Since returning to England in 2017, the former Chelsea man has been integral to the Reds’ success, scoring a remarkable 148 goals and providing 56 assists in 229 games across all competitions.

The Egyptian’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023, and both Klopp and Reds supporters alike will be keen on tying the player down to a longer term deal.

The German, however, remains positive in relation to the situation, insisting that it is ‘all fine’.

Salah insists his contract demands are reasonable

As per Sky Sports, the former Borussia Dortmund boss stated that “Nowadays it’s dangerous with these interviews when you don’t speak to the player himself.

“I know Mo wants to stay, we want Mo to stay. These things take time, but I think all of it is in a good place,” he added.

“I’m very positive about it.”

When questioned on whether things were heading in the right direction, Klopp remained positive, appearing confident that a deal will be agreed.

“These things take time. There are so many things to do, by the way there is a third party agent there as well. But it’s nothing to worry about.

“He has contract here this season and next season.”

Klopp’s comments will be welcomed by Liverpool fans, who will nervously await news of any developments in negotiations.

This season, Salah leads the Premier League charts for both goals and assists, registering 16 and nine respectively so far.
