Liverpool won their second leg against Arsenal (2-0). The Reds join Chelsea in the League Cup final.
The first round had been one of all the frustrations for Liverpool. A goalless draw and choppy, clueless content, despite an advantageous numerical superiority. For this second round, Klopp’s band has somehow put the dots back on the i’s, thus confirming the slight gap which still separates it from Arsenal, despite the laudable progress of the young Gunners.
Jota Porte Liverpool
The affair could have turned out badly for the Reds, who saw the bar of Kelleher reason from the fifth minute on a free kick from Lacazette deflected with the end of the gloves by the goalkeeper (5th). After this alert, Liverpool (re) put their game in place. And at the heart of a team that was still well overhauled, it was Diogo Jota who pulled out of the game. Quietly, the Portuguese is making his season. It was he, with a perfect technical sequence, who forced the London lock on a high-class action, initiated by Fabinho and relayed by Alexander-Arnold (0-1, 19th). It was he, again, who sheltered his people on a lob while touching, finally granted by the VAR (0-2, 78th).
In the meantime, Liverpool have managed their business rather well. Opposite, Lacazette, too lonely, could not solve all the problems of the evening for Arsenal, who finished at ten after a stroke of blood from Partey (90th + 2). The Carabao Cup final will therefore pit Liverpool against Chelsea. It looks good.
