Lucasfilm Sticking To Legacy Franchises

Lucasfilm Sticking To Legacy Franchises

Lucasfilm is reportedly exiting the original IP world as it focuses entirely on its existing legacy franchises like “Star Wars,” “Indiana Jones,” and “Willow” for the near future.

The news comes in a THR report about how a breakdown in development on the film adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s young adult fantasy novel “Children of Blood and Bone” at Lucasfilm led to them selling it off to Paramount where it has scored new life.

The project was positioned to be Lucasfilm’s big new IP but it stalled and Adeyemi reportedly grew disenchanted with the pace of development and made the case she should be the one writing the script.

Lucasfilm didn’t agree and the creative differences froze things until the studio put the project into turnaround late last year. Earlier this month, Paramount picked it up and Adeyemi now has the right to pen the screenplay.

Lucasfilm meanwhile will double down on the properties it owns with the fifth “Indiana Jones” film, the “Willow” sequel series, and more “Star Wars” series than one can count on the way.
