ASVEL has come a long way! By winning by thirteen points (63-76) in the round of 16 first leg of the Eurocup against the Russians of Nika Syktyvkar, the Lyonnaises have taken a small step towards the eighth, provided they do not miss next week in the Rhône. In this city located northeast of Moscow, where the temperature indicated -11°C outside, Pierre Vincent’s daughters led from start to finish, and the victory would undoubtedly have been wider if they had not experienced a small relaxation at the end of the match.
After a first quarter won 11-19, ASVEL signed a second quarter of fire, leaving the Russians to register only 8 points, against 23 scored, to reach half-time with a score of 19-42. The Lyonnaises continued their momentum after returning from the locker room and their lead reached +25 in the 28th minute. In the last quarter, the Russians finally woke up, signing a 26-17 in the last ten minutes, in the wake of a Raisa Musina who will finish with 27 points and 9 rebounds.
This allowed them to bow with a less abysmal gap than feared. They therefore still have a small hope for the return match, even if it will be necessary to achieve a feat. Aleksandra Crvendakic has greatly contributed to this Lyon success , with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists
, but Alexis Chartereau (14pts, 5rbds) was not left out. To be confirmed next Thursday!

Note that three other French clubs are playing in the round of 16 of the Eurocup but will not be playing this Thursday. Bourges, Charleville-Mézières and Villeneuve d’Ascq have seen their matches postponed due to covid cases. The Tango will finally play on the 17th and 20th against the Czechs of Brno, the Flames will play on the 19th and 22nd against the Turks of Mersin, while the Northerners will face the Polish of Lublin on dates which have not yet been revealed.
