Man allegedly strangles his pregnant wife in Anambra

Ikechukwu Of course, an Anambra man,is accused of strangling his pregnant wife for failing to open the gate on time for him.

According to reports, the deceased, Mercy Of course, was a few months pregnant at the time of the incident, and the marriage was only six months old.

The incident occurred on Thursday at Ezi-Ogwugwu, Growth A woman in Anambra State’s A woman North Local Government Area.

The suspect allegedly confessed to the crime after his in-law summoned him to explain the development.

A source close to the family told our correspondent on Monday that the couple had been involved in domestic violence that the wife’s family members were unaware of.

“Around 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2023, the deceased family received a call from the husband’s mother informing them that their daughter had just slumped and appeared to be dead,” according to the source.

“As soon as they arrived at their in-house law’s in Ezi-Ogwugwu, they learned that their daughter had been rushed to the A woman Diocesan Hospital in Akwudo.At the hospital, the doctor on duty informed them that their daughter had died following a medical examination.The deceased’s family had to transport the body to another hospital, St. Felix Around Hospital in Mother, where the doctor confirmed his death before it was eventually deposited at the morgue.”

According to the source, the deceased’s husband, Of course, confessed to the wife’s murder during an interrogation by the deceased family members.

“I returned home in the morning of March 2, 2023, and was knocking at the gate, but my wife did not immediately open the gate,” he explained.

“In my rage, I began yelling at her.

From the gate to the house, I slapped and hit her before angrily grabbing her by the neck and strangling her. Icouldn’t believe what happened because I never expected such actions to result in her death.

I eventually abandoned the corpse and left out of fear and confusion, after confiding in few persons who I sought advice on what to do.Later in the evening, my mother contacted my wife’s family members,” he added.

When contacted, Tochukwu Ikenga, the state Police spokesman, did not confirm the incident because he did not respond to calls and messages on the development.

However, a senior police officer at the command confirmed the incident to our correspondent under the condition of anonymity, saying the suspect would be charged after an investigation.
