Man United make Premier League defender number one target

Manchester United continued their good run of form in the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday.

Despite Erik ten Hag serving a touchline ban, his side cruised to a comfortable victory at Goodison Park against a Toffees side that were playing for the first time since being docked ten points last week.

Alejandro Garnacho gave the visitors the lead inside three minutes with a stunning overhead kick, before Marcus Rashford doubled their lead from the penalty spot after half-time.

Forward Anthony Martial then made sure of the victory for United with his first goal of the season, leaving the Red Devils sixth in the Premier League table.

Despite their strong form, it appears that those in charge of United are already planning ahead for the January transfer window.

They have made Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi their ‘number one target’ ahead of the mid-season window, according to Football Insider.

Guehi’s impressive performances have attracted interest from Manchester United

The report claims that United are planning a January move for the central defender, who has been in fine form for the Eagles this season.

Guehi, 23, joined Palace from boyhood club Chelsea in the summer of 2021, and has since made 96 appearances for the club across all competitions.

His impressive displays over the past 12 months have also allowed him to establish himself as a regular in the England setup, and the defender has now been capped nine times at senior level having made his debut back in March.

At present, Guehi is contracted to the Eagles until the summer of 2026, but United could attempt to lure him away from Selhurst Park in the new year.

The Red Devils are on the hunt for defensive reinforcements with Lisandro Martinez having struggled with injuries ever since arriving at Old Trafford last summer.

Harry Maguire has also been out of favour for much of Ten Hag’s tenure in Manchester, and the Dutchman is therefore keen to sign a central defender in January.
