PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has suspended classes in public schools and work in government offices in Metro Manila on Monday, July 24, 2023 due to inclement weather brought by Tropical Storm “Egay” and the scheduled transport strike, Malacañang said Saturday.
Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil said that Marcos issued Memorandum Circular 25 declaring the suspension “to ensure the safety of the public from the effects of ‘Egay’ and to alleviate the effects of the scheduled 72-hour transport strike.” Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed the order on July 21.
The President, however, said that government agencies that are involved in the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services.
The suspension of work for private companies and classes in private schools is left to the discretion of their respective heads, he added.
Marcos is scheduled to deliver his second State of the Nation Address also on Monday.
