Mark Wahlberg has got a reputation for going hard in the gym—and he’s just shown off the fruits of his labor in a short new Instagram video, which captures him flexing shirtless and showing off his shredded abs and bicep pump.
It’s the kind of physique that’s impressive at any age and in any context, but especially so when you remember that Wahlberg, 50, transformed his body last year for his role in the upcoming movie Father Stu. He gained 30 pounds in less than a month, a process which involved eating up to 11,000 calories every day—but as he explained in an interview with Jimmy Fallon, gaining weight was actually more challenging than when he has had to drop fat.
“Unfortunately, I had to consume, for two weeks, 7,000 calories, and then for another two weeks, 11,000 calories. And it was fun for about an hour,” he said last year. “It’s such a hard, physical thing to do. Losing weight, you just kind of tough it out—you just don’t eat, and exercise. And this, even when you’re full, I would wake up after a meal and have another meal. I was eating every three hours. It was not fun.”
After shooting ended on Father Stu, it’s safe to say that Wahlberg has since resculpted the abs that have been part of his trademark appeal ever since he first came on the scene with the Funky Bunch and those Calvin Klein ads in the early ’90s.
In the new Instagram video, Wahlberg claims that the “secret” to his physique is the Performance Inspired range of sport nutritional products. (It’s certainly true that abs are made in the kitchen.)

Nutritional supplements aside, though, Wahlberg’s toned chest and abs and jacked arms are no doubt at least partially the result of the now-infamous training schedule that went viral in September 2018 after he shared it on social media, which involves waking up at 2:30 a.m and packing in two separate workouts as well as a recovery session in a cryotherapy chamber.
