Meng Wanzhou to Become Huawei’s Rotating Chairwoman on April 1

Meng Wanzhou, also known as Sabrina Meng, Vice Chairwoman and CFO of Chinese tech giant Huawei, will step into the role of Rotating Chairwoman of the company for the first time on April 1. Huawei has been rotating the role of its Chairperson every six months since 2012. Last year, Huawei announced that Meng had succeeded Guo Ping as one of the three Rotating Chairpersons, with Guo transitioning to the position of Chairman of Huawei’s Board of Directors. Huawei’s other two Rotating Chairmen are Eric Xu and Ken Hu. Xu’s current rotation ends on March 1.

Meng graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China with a master’s degree and joined Huawei in 1993. Her former roles include Director of International Accounting, CFO of Huawei Hong Kong, and President of Account Management. Since 2003, Meng has led the establishment of Huawei’s globally-unified financial system, business processes, operations, and IT platforms. From 2007 to 2014, she implemented the Integrated Financial Services (IFS) Transformation Program across the company. In 2021, after being released from Canada where she was held on US charges of fraud, Meng resumed oversight of Huawei’s operations.

On March 28 last year, Meng said at Huawei’s 2021 annual report press conference that the company’s greatest resources are its talent, ideas, theories, projects, methodologies, and internal processes.

Recently, Meng led a team to visit two state-owned Chinese companies. On February 7, China National Building Materials (CNBM), the largest building material producer in China and Huawei held a signing ceremony for a joint venture in Beijing, attended by Meng. The two companies will work closely in the fields of new material research and development, digitalization, sustainability, globalization, and more.

On the same day, Meng visited China Huaneng Group, one of the five largest state-owned electricity generation companies in China. Meng publically expressed gratitude to Huaneng for its trust and support for Huawei. According to Meng, Huawei will increase investment in research and development and will rely on Huaneng to provide advisory and direction to jointly explore opportunities combining digital technology, coal industry, and renewable energy.
