Michigan safety Daxton Hill announced on Instagram he will declare for the 2022 NFL draft.

“It’s been a long, unforgettable journey that I’ve had these past three years which has shaped who I’ve become,” Hill wrote in his announcement. “After much prayer and thoughtful consideration, I have decided to enter the 2022 NFL Draft.”

Hill earned first-team All-Big Ten honors after totaling 69 tackles as a junior in 2021, including 4.5 for loss, plus two interceptions.

Michigan has already seen outside linebacker David Ojabo, edge-rusher Aidan Hutchinson, defensive tackle Christopher Hinton, receiver Daylen Baldwin and running back Hassan Haskins declare for the upcoming draft, per Aaron McMann of MLive.com.

The 6’0″, 192-pound Hill will be a significant loss after helping the Wolverines win a Big Ten title and make an appearance in the College Football Playoff. He was a key part of the defense that ranks eighth nationally with 17.4 points allowed per game.

The Oklahoma native came to Ann Arbor as a 5-star prospect and the No. 1 safety in the 2019 recruiting class, and the 247Sports composite ranking listed him No. 14 overall. Even with just three years on campus, he clearly lived up to expectations.

He will now try to impress NFL scouts as he looks to be one of the top safeties off the board.

Bleacher Report’s Cory Giddings listed Hill as the ninth-best safety in the class in the latest Scouting Department big board, although he was also considered the best slot cornerback available.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. said in October the Michigan player could be a sleeper in the class.

“He’s exactly what NFL coordinators want in a defensive back: He can be a deep safety, cover wide receivers from the slot or play close to the line of scrimmage, and make plays in the run game,” Kiper wrote.

The skill set could make him an impact player early in his professional career.
