Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a regular press conference on the 17th that China is very concerned about the disaster caused by the volcanic eruption in Tonga, and expresses deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the Tonga government and people for the serious losses caused by the disaster. The Red Cross Society of China has decided to provide Tonga with US$100,000 in emergency humanitarian cash assistance.
“China will provide further assistance within its capacity according to the disaster and Tonga’s needs. We believe that the Tongan government and people will be able to overcome the disaster and rebuild a beautiful home at an early date,” Zhao Lijian said. (End)
