Nel test MotoGP di Sepang Yamaha sta lavorando su un nuovo pacchetto aerodinamico per la YZR-M1. L’obiettivo è acquistare top speed non solo con il motore.

Yamaha ha debuttato con un nuovo pacchetto aerodinamico allo shakedown che ha preceduto i test MotoGP a Sepang. La filosofia generale è in gran parte simile a quanto già visto in pista. Ma l’aletta principale è molto più piatta e dirige il flusso d’aria anche davanti alla presa d’aria, che non è da meno rispetto a quella dell’Aprilia RS-GP.
A Jerez, durante i test di fine anno, gli ingegneri Yamaha avevano già apportato modifiche al loro pacchetto aerodinamico, ma a Sepang queste sono molto più radicali.
Ecco la carena testata a Jerez, dove l’area che si è evoluta è appena sopra le pinne aerodinamiche. Sulla carena attuale, in questa stessa zona, la carena ha una piccola sezione concava che gira verso l’interno. Su questa nuova versione è molto più liscia e arrotondata.
Ecco la versione che è stata provata a Sepang dal collaudatore Kohta Nozane, durante la seconda giornata dello Shakedown. Con questa pinna principale più grande della precedente, l’obiettivo della Yamaha sembra essere quello di cercare di massimizzare il carico aerodinamico sulla ruota anteriore. Inoltre, passando sotto la presa d’aria, massimizza anche il flusso d’aria in entrata nell’air box, limitando le turbolenze in modo da favorire la potenza e la coppia del motore Yamaha, notoriamente in deficit rispetto ai suoi concorrenti.
