Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly decided to cancel a planned party at the last minute due to media reports that left them furious. The couple had intended to celebrate July 4 with friends at their Montecito home, with gazebos already set up in the garden. However, Meghan instructed the planners to call off the event in response to the media rumors.
A source said the media reports focused on its business deal with Netflix, suggesting it was under threat. Because of this, the couple called off the celebration 3 days before it was supposed to take place.
The rumors surrounding their Netflix deal emerged following news that Meghan’s Spotify podcast would not be renewed for a second season. Insiders close to Spotify claimed that the couple failed to meet the required productivity benchmark for the full payout. However, Meghan is reportedly planning to create more podcasts in the future.
Following the Spotify podcast snub, Head of Podcast Innovation and Monetisation at the streaming giant, Bill Simmons publicly criticized the couple being dishonest, leading to speculations that a significant amount of money could be withheld from them if they didn’t come up with better ideas for future projects.
A spokesperson for Netflix clarified that the deal with Harry and Meghan remains ongoing, but it will depend on their ability to produce compelling content. The streaming platform is eager to collaborate with the couple on fresh and exciting ideas as the deal remains under regular review.
Despite the media speculation, the spokesperson for Harry and Meghan denied any possibility of the Netflix deal coming to an end.
