The NFL’s new kickoff made its regular-season debut on Thursday night when the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens kicked off the 2024 campaign.
Granted, it was a bit of a letdown, as Kansas City’s kickoff resulted in a touchback. But fans and pundits on social media still had thoughts on the rule changes:

That’s what the dynamic kickoff is going to look like all season — the same as last season — with all the kicks going out of the end zone.

I wonder if teams just decide to kick off thru the end zone and give opponent the 30.

Think we’re going to get a lot of touchbacks Week 1 (although I’m hoping I’m wrong)

I dont like this offensive lineup rule or the kickoff who tf came up with that lol
The second kickoff of the game did result in a return, however, with Carson Steele taking the ball out to the 33-yard-line.
The new rules have kickers placing the ball at their own 35-yard-line, while the other kickoff players line up at the opponent’s 40-yard line. At least seven players from the the receiving team line up at their own 35-yard line, and no players other than the kicker are allowed to move until the ball is caught in the field of play or goes into the end zone for a touchback.
At least nine players from the receiving team must be lined up between their own 30- and 35-yard line.
Kickers are aiming for a landing zone between the goal line and the receiving team’s 20-yard line. Kicks that land in the landing zone must be returned, while kicks that go into the end zone and are either downed or go out of the back of the end zone result in a touchback and the ball being placed at the receiving team’s 30-yard line.
Kicks that go short of the landing zone or go out of bounds result in the receiving team getting the ball at their own 40-yard line.
