NIO: Self-Developed Chips to Be Mass-Produced in 1-2 Years

On August 15th, Bai Jian, vice president of NIO, stated that in the next one to two years, some key chips including the assisted driving chip will also be self-developed and mass-produced, and it will be a ‘true full-stack, fully self-developed’ approach!

To answer the question ‘Does NIO have technology?’, NIO officially released some of its achievements yesterday. According to the introduction, as of the first quarter of 2023, NIO has applied for, published, and authorized over 6,000 patents worldwide.

In terms of specific achievements, NIO has already launched China’s first self-developed all-aluminum vehicle architecture, China’s first independently designed all-aluminum vehicle body production line, the world’s first in-car intelligent voice assistant, the world’s first high-strength bolt-type battery swapping system, the world’s first permanent magnet synchronous + asynchronous induction dual-motor drive system, China’s first Navigate on Pilot (NOP) function, the world’s first ternary lithium power battery pack, Aquila – a perception system that integrates high-performance lidar technology and Adam – the world’s first intelligent driving supercomputing platform with computing power exceeding 1,000 TOPS.

NIO delivered 20,462 new vehicles in July, a year-on-year increase of 103.6% and a month-on-month increase of 91.1%. The delivery volume reached a historical high, and it was also the first time for NIO to deliver over ten thousand units of a single model in a month. From January to July 2023, NIO delivered a total of 75,023 new vehicles.

It is worth mentioning that the highly anticipated NIO smartphone has recently been approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for network access. The model number is N2301, and the applying company is NIO Mobile Technology Co., Ltd. However, no official photos have been released yet.

Prior to this, the NIO smartphone has already obtained radio approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This model will support 2G, China Unicom 3G, CDMA, China Mobile + China Unicom 4G, as well as 5G network standards. It also supports UWB ultra-wideband technology. This means that the NIO smartphone is expected to be used as a digital key for NIO cars or form short-range connections with other smart devices.

Prior to this, NIO founder William Li stated that NIO plans to develop a new smartphone every year, just like Apple. He revealed that the NIO phone will be released and delivered in the third quarter of this year, with an expected price range of 5000 to 7000 yuan (686.36 to 960.90 US Dollar).
