The new measures are also intended to prevent possible suicides behind prison walls. Even more pressure came after the death of police ex-president Milan Lučanský, who came to life in a custody cell. Prisoners of accused complain mainly about almost zero contact with the family, so the proposal brings more frequent phone calls and visits. Accused in collusive detention are locked up to 23 hours a day and are usually alone in the cell. After the new one, this may no longer be the rule if the doctor assesses the accused’s suicidal tendencies or the risk of endangering his health.
