Novak Djokovic berates and tells own fan to leave before signing Beastie Boys classic at US Open

Fans witnessed the furious and fun side of Novak Djokovic during his straight sets win over American Taylor Fritz at the US Open.

A 6-1 6-4 6-4 triumph suggests it was a stress-free quarter-final win for Djokovic but his frustrations boiled over in the third set in a game that saw him lose his serve.

Serving at 4-3 up and deuce, Djokovic lost a point after seemingly being distracted by a fan in the stands calling a looping Fritz shot out before it bounced in.

Djokovic then shouted and gesticulated in the direction of where the fan was sat as the home crowd celebrated Fritz’s advantage.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion then lost the next point to surrender his break in the third set. After almost smashing his racquet on the court, Djokovic then shooed away the fan, who appeared to oblige to the Serbian’s demand.

It soon emerged that the group of fans sat in the area were supporting Djokovic, some of them wearing t-shirts saying he is tennis’ greatest ever player.

Fortunately for Djokovic and the fan, it didn’t affect the course of the match as the 36-year-old immediately broke ninth seed Fritz before serving the clash out.

After the match a considerably more relaxed Djokovic got the spectators inside Arthur Ashe Stadium to sing Beastie Boys classic ‘Fight For Your Right’ as he celebrated his win.

Djokovic, who’s won the US Open three times, will face the winner of the All-American Frances Tiafoe vs Ben Shelton showdown in the semi-finals on Friday.

Also in the men’s singles draw are third seed Daniil Medvedev and world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz, who beat Djokovic in an enthralling men’s singles final at Wimbledon.
