An exhibition was opened at the Murska Sobota Gallery, designed for this occasion by this year’s winner of the Prešeren Fund Award, Dušan Kirbiš.
These are objects that, according to the artist, have been found, but although it may seem that the artist searched for and found them, it is the opposite way. Namely, these objects, I strictly believe, found me and aroused some action in me, that I chose them, recognized them as important to me. “
The exhibition entitled Objects and Images (open until March 23) is in a way a summary of the artist’s work to date. , although it is not a transparent exhibition in chronological terms. It is essential for the artist not to swear by a single artistic expression, recalls curator Robert Inhof, but sometimes different expressions coexist very synchronously in his work, which are not disputed but complementary.
“Sometimes this term comes to such conceptual solutions, where the idea or concept itself is more important than the work of art itself, as we see in this exhibition. this opus back, we always find some logic, which is always limited in time, ” thinks Inhof. With this, we cannot say what will happen, he adds, as he is always changing the concepts of exhibitions and will not transfer this exhibition to the Gallery of Prešeren’s Laureates in Kranj, just as this is not the transfer of Ptuj. Namely, Kirbiš receives the Prešeren Fund Award for the exhibition On the Origin of Images , which he held in 2021 at the Ptuj City Gallery.
Works, which are on display in Murska Sobota are a reflection of the artist’s characteristic dualities, especially the fact that something comprehensive can also be presented as individual, the cumulative whole is presented as the multiplicity of its fragments, added Inhof.
) When the artist exhibited at the Murska Sobota Gallery in 2000, he donated paintings to the permanent collection and will do the same this time. The installation will be accompanied by an extensive catalog, which will not be a classic accompaniment to the exhibited works, but is conceived as a book with accompanying texts by Inhof, himself and unknown authors, who are very closely related to the exhibits.
Dušan Kirbiš (1953) works in the fields of painting, sculpture, photography and new media. His works are kept in all important museums, galleries and collections of contemporary Slovenian art and private collections. He teaches at the Department of Textile Technology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology in Ljubljana
