Official: Mike Krack takes charge of the Aston Martin F1 team

The Aston Martin F1 team was quick to announce Otmar Szfanauer’s replacement: Mike Krack was appointed Team Principal today.

Prior to joining Aston Martin F1, Mike Krack led BMW’s global motorsport operations, having worked in Munich since 2014.

In this capacity he was in charge of BMW’s Formula E, GT and IMSA programs, as well as its planned expansion into the new LMDh formula for IMSA and WEC, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Prior to this, Krack held a motorsport management position for Porsche. He worked ten years in Formula 1 before, for Sauber then BMW-Sauber.

“It is an honor and a privilege , thanks to Lawrace and Martin [Whitmarsh] for giving me such a fantastic opportunity,” comments Krack.

“Aston Martin is one of the greatest automotive brands in the world, and to have been asked to play a leading role in Formula 1 success with such an illustrious name is a challenge I intend to take on with energy and enthusiasm.”

“I have been working in motorsport for over 20 years and worked in Formula 1 with Sebastian Vettel in 2006 and 2007 when I was a BMW-Sauber engineer and he was the team’s test driver. I have huge respect for his speed and ability, and it will be fantastic to have him back. Lance Stroll is also a very fast and talented driver, with 100 Grand Prix starts to his name, and I am very much looking forward to working closely with him.”

“This Silverstone based team has always impressed me. The team is full of talented people and real competitors. Culture and values are what is needed to succeed in motorsport – I know that and my new colleagues at the Aston Martin F1 team know that too. We are going to work incredibly hard. We want to win. Together we will do it.”
