Warner Bros. Discovery has unveiled a first look at The Last of Us Season 2, showing off Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie officially after set photos recently hit the internet.
The Last of Us is HBO’s smash hit TV show based on Sony’s hugely successful post-apocalyptic adventure video game franchise. Season 1, which premiered in 2023, was the most-watched debut season of a series ever for HBO.
The Last of Us Season 2 images were unveiled today by Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, during the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront presentation. There’s still no release date for Season 2, but we do know it’s set to debut on HBO at some point in 2025 and will be available to stream on Max.
Season 2 returning cast includes the aforementioned Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, as well as Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. Previously announced new cast includes Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Catherine O’Hara also guest stars.
The Last of Us is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann. The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and is also executive produced by Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and former co-president of Naughty Dog Evan Wells. Production companies include PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog.
We thought The Last of Us Season 1 set a high bar for video game-to-TV-show adaptations, awarding it a 9/10 in our review. At the time, we said: “HBO’s The Last of Us is a stunning adaptation that should thrill newcomers and enrich those already familiar with Joel and Ellie’s journey alike.”
Expect to see The Last of Us Season 2 premiere sometime in 2025. For more on how Season 2 will bring The Last of Us Part 2 to TV screens, you can read up on our predictions here.
