Offsite firm wins £49m hospital job

Offsite specialist MTX is to deliver a £49m health facility in Surrey.

The Cheshire-based firm has been awarded the contract for the diagnostic and imaging centre at Frimley Park Hospital.

The three-storey building will hold 74 inpatient beds ranging from single rooms to four-bed bays.

Linked to the main hospital but offering a one-stop service, the new hub will also feature equipment such as CT and MRI scanners as well as gamma cameras.

MTX is progressing groundworks on site while simultaneously manufacturing modular sections of the building in a factory.

The firm said using modern methods of construction would allow it to deliver fully compliant facilities in half the time of a conventional project.

Waste will also be reduced and disruption to patients minimised, according to the contractor.

MTX managing director David Hartley said: “The contract at Frimley Park is another important milestone in our continuing collaboration with health trusts across the UK on the creation of new facilities designed to reduce waiting lists and improve patient care.”

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust chief executive Neil Dardis added: “This is a significant investment that will help us continue delivering high standards of care for our patients as we wait for our new Frimley Park Hospital.

“As part of that project we will be looking at how we can continue to use this new building, along with other suitable areas of our current hospital site, as part of our healthcare facilities in the future.”
