The head of the SMP Racing youth program Pyotr Aleshin spoke about the prospects of Alexander Smolyar in the 2022 season. In 2021, Smolyar spent his second season in Formula 3 and finished in sixth place.

“Option A – fresh beer in Yuzhny Butovo. Option B is, accordingly, a race as part of a new project called BR03. And option C is a continuation of a career in Europe. In the near future, some general decisions will be made on the program, including on Sasha as part of the program. And the overall strategy of the program will become apparent. Based on this strategy, we will make decisions for all athletes. This is a common practice. And all the options that I have voiced are absolutely possible.

Of course, our plan was to fight for the victory in the championship. The minimum program, the so-called “plan B”, is the top three in the championship, because otherwise it just doesn’t make any sense at all, it’s all too expensive. And too much, of course, is at stake … Racing is an expensive sport, especially when you consider the cost per athlete. Therefore, our goals are high. And, of course, we expected slightly different results from this year. More precisely, not a little. Well, there are such seasons. Yes, not the most, frankly, successful season.

I believe that initially we had everything to fight for at least the top three. Unfortunately, it turned out quite differently. We had to fight for the top 3, or better – for the victory in the championship, and in this fight we could, let’s say, lose – to the same Hauger. But, nevertheless, we had to impose a struggle on him. But they didn’t impose. In addition, given that our teammate Frederic Vesti is above us in the championship, what can we say here in our defense? Nothing.
