Overwatch 2 Season 15 release time and full patch notes revealed

Overwatch 2’s new season 15 is finally here, so take a look at these lengthy patch notes so you know exactly what’s new in Blizzard’s Hero shooter (including those all-important new perks)

“Heroes never die!” is something Overwatch fans have been hearing for years, and last week’s Overwatch Spotlight event felt a little like Blizzard using a Mercy rez in the wake of Marvel Rivals’ success.

Many of the upgrades and changes are yet to come but, as of today, Overwatch 2 Season 15 is here – and it’s a big one.

While it doesn’t include a new Hero (although Freya is playable), it does include a competitive rank reset, 6v6 queue, and the huge shakeup that Perks will offer. These customisable tweaks will let players adjust their playstyle mid-match, so no two heroes play the same.

Perks

The biggest shakeup since Overwatch went from 6v6 to the sequel’s 5v5 (more on that shortly), Perks will let players change the way they play depending on how a match is going.

At two points in a match, you’ll be able to level up, essentially, adding a minor perk and then a major perk.

These can affect abilities, or replace them with whole new ones, and there are a load of them to choose from and experiment with. In fact, we’ve got a rundown of all 42 below.

6v6 and Competitive Updates

There’s a new weapon type to be earned through competitive play, with the skin dubbed ‘Galactic’.

Expect them to be particularly flashy for players that are good enough to earn them.

6v6 is back, too, and this time it’s focused on the GOATS meta. For those who don’t know, the idea was to play three Tanks and three Support characters. It’s actually pretty funny that it’s seeing a resurgence here as, at the time, many fans hated it.

Loot Boxes

Another controversial thing that fans are actually pretty nostalgic for is the return of Loot Boxes. Fans have bemoaned playing Overwatch 2 and ending up with little to show for it without spending money in the store, and the return of the loot box mechanic means you’ve got an increased chance to get something good without dropping a dime.
