Party Vindicat ends in destruction and intimidation

After a party at a recreational lake, members of the Groningen student association Vindicat destroyed three Qbuzz buses late last night. They smashed windows with emergency hammers and scattered stink bombs.

“We at Qbuzz are particularly concerned that bus drivers and travelers are intimidated”, Michel van der Mark responds to RTV Noord. He cannot yet say anything about the extent of the damage.

The riots and destruction followed at the Buitenspelen party at the Kardingerplas, not far from Groningen. At around 11:15 p.m., police received a report of a fight. When officers went to look, it turned out that students were trying to gain access to regular buses to the city center. When that didn’t go fast enough, they caused destruction.

Buses were overrun

Van der Mark from Qbuzz: “We have had previously consulted with the organizers about the removal of the partygoers. Separate buses had been reserved for this, but the public somehow walked to buses of lines 3 and 4. The organization had estimated that about 700 visitors would but there were many, many more. The buses were swamped, as it were.”

“There was a grim atmosphere, with disturbances and destruction,” confirms a police spokesman.

Across the ring road and bus lanes

According to the police, a large group of students then went on foot towards the city center. They also walked along the ring road and bus lanes. “That also caused nuisance,” said the police spokesman. In the end no one was arrested.

As far as Qbuzz is concerned, the last word has not yet been spoken. “We will certainly enter into discussions with Vindicat to evaluate this state of affairs,” said Van der Mark. The mayor of Groningen Schuiling also wants to talk. “First let me list the facts. And of course that includes a conversation with Vindicat.”
