Sarkodie has dished out a motivational speech during a recent interview, saying nobody gave him a chance to shine with his indigenous language in the rap game but he’s now celebrated globally.
While being interviewed City 105.1 FM based in Nigeria, Sarkodie, real name Michael Owusu Addo mentioned that was able to make it big from Ghana to the world even though most people doubted his capabilities based on his medium of communication as a rapper.
He said his native Twi language was lumped in a bracket per people’s assumption hence they never thought they could make giant strides worldwide.
He stated, “I started rapping in Twi, and people taught I was limited, yes! it is true to an extent, but people don’t understand it. Is all about what you believe, and you must always hold on to that, and it’s all a matter of time, you will surely be there.”
He then advised budding artists never to give up based on his experience. He said, ” Never give up on what you believe, you just need to be stubborn on your ideas and dreams, and you will surely get there.”
In a related development, Sarkodie has said he has lost count of the number of awards he has won in his illustrious career.
The boss of SarkCess Music which once housed Akwaboah and Strongman has officially received over 100 awards since he burst onto the scene a little over a decade ago after Dr. Duncan discovered him on Kasahare Levels on Adom FM.
In a chit chat with familiar interviewer Tim Westwood TV, the iconic rapper said he has no idea the number of awards he scooped so far when he was asked about the number of awards he has won.
He said, “I only get updates about the number of awards I have won through my Twitter fans Page, and that’s where I get to know the exact number of Awards won”, he said.
In all, Sarkodie has won a total of 107 awards which makes him Africa’s most decorated rapper. The Ghanaian rapper and hiplife artist according to available statistics has received 107 awards from 191 nominations, including 25 Ghana Music Awards.
