Unveiling the hologram of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose here on Sunday on the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that though the penance of lakhs of Indians contributed to the fight for freedom, their efforts were not given due recognition for decades. This wrong is being corrected now with full vigour. His remarks were aimed at the opposition in the wake of a clamour among political parties to appropriate Bose’s legacy.
“The pledge of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is that India will revive its identity and sources of inspiration. It is unfortunate that after Independence, efforts have been made to obliterate the contribution of several great people along with the culture and traditions of the country,” Modi said. “The penance of lakhs of countrymen was involved in the freedom struggle but their history was sought to be diminished. But today, decades after Independence, the country is trying to correct those mistakes with full vigour,” Modi said.
The NDA government has started several programs to revive the memory of Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Birsa Munda, Sardar Patel and other freedom fighters. Bose’s birth anniversary is celebrated as Parakram Divas.
Modi recalled his participation in the celebrations held last year on this day at the ancestral home of Subhash Chandra Bose in Kolkata and the events organised to commemorate the formation of Azad Hind government on October 21, 2018.
“When Netaji Subhas would decide upon a goal, then no force could stop him. We have to move forward with Netaji Subhas’s ‘Can do, Will do’ spirit,” Modi said.
The prime minister underlined that disaster management has become more organised through legislation and formation of the National Disaster Management Authority.
