Polestar electric car receives software upgrade

The Volvo subsidiary Polestar offers buyers of a Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor the possibility of performance optimization. As the manufacturer of electric vehicles emphasizes on its website, the performance software upgrade is only available to customers who paid for the model in cash or by credit card . Leasing or fleet customers are excluded from the offer. The upgrade costs 1,000 euros and is available in the vehicle’s extras online shop.

Scope of offer

The offer includes tuning including performance improvement. The performance of your own vehicle can be increased from 300 to 350 kW, which enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds. The torque improves from 660 to 680 Nm. The influence on the driving characteristics is seen as positive. According to Polestar, the upgrade will not have a negative impact on energy consumption. In order to optimize the performance in a way that conserves resources, the installation takes place via over-the-air update. The software is thus updated via a radio interface such as WLAN.

Additional costs and new operating permit

As the manufacturer emphasizes on its website, the installation changes the performance data of the vehicle. In Germany, therefore, an individual acceptance by a motor vehicle expert and a new registration are required. The additional costs for the acceptance run depending on the location between 300 and 400 euros, according to the company. The manufacturer cannot precisely measure the costs involved in the new registration.

In connection with the new registration, various additional costs such as higher insurance premiums, a higher vehicle tax and other taxes may arise. Here you should always contact the responsible vehicle registration office. In addition to a visit to the TÜV and the vehicle registration office, the insurance company must also be informed. Before you can really use your optimized electric car, there are a few things that need to be done. Giga.de therefore advises all interested parties to read the small print carefully before buying and to take any necessary precautions and additional costs into account. An operating license is not required for all software updates: Certain features can also be used without a new operating license. These include, for example, heated seats.
